Who Is Driving Your Bus

Who Is Driving Your Bus And Do They Have A Map?

I was working with a client yesterday and I asked her, “Who Is Driving the Bus?” (She has worked with me long enough to know I ask silly questions sometimes!)

As we discussed all of the people, companies and tools that are required to keep her marketing bus running…she discovered she hadn’t assigned a DRIVER and she didn’t have a MAP.

Who is the Best Driver

Someone with the talent, tools and time to do the job.

In small business world, many owners think this person is Me, Me, Me. Especially when there is NO budget for marketing.

But the truth is: If you have no money to market your business…you will very quickly have no business.

Here are a couple of options:

1. Talented Kids. I have a client who “outsources” his social media to his teenage daughter who is amazingly talented. You can read more about this option in my article My Social Media Manager is my 13 Year Old Daughter.

2. Temporary Coach. Once service I offer local clients is “Lead By Example” for a 6-12 month period of time I teach your team how to create and implement a social media plan. My goal is to put myself out of a job…It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to do what I do (sorry to all the other social media gurus).

3. Classes. They are MANY free courses you can take on line to learn learn about Social Media Marketing. I would suggest you keep your eye on Social Media Examiners Page and women in the know Amy Porterfield & Mari Smith.

4. Become An Apprentice. Who have you seen or observed that markets well? What marketing catches your eye? Contact them and ask for a meeting. Successful people are Go-Givers! If you honestly seek knowledge for the right intentions then you can expect help from those that have been there and done that.

How Do I Create The Map

I don’t need a map…I just ride by the seat of my pants.

Look at your Business Plan! What are your goals? Social Media is NOT a NEW PLAN! It is an extension of your current plan. It is a new tool to re-purpose or “repackage” your brick and mortar marketing.
Now if you were laughing when I said Business Plan…sorry, you do need one and if you do not have one then I would grab a sheet of paper, sit down and answer these questions:

  1. Where did your company come from?
  2. Where is your company at?
  3. Where is your company going?
  4. Why do you do what you do?
  5. Who do you do it for?
  6. Do you still want to do it?

Sometime creating the Map is the toughest part of the job. I teach my clients how to build an Internet Map that helps them realize where they are and see where they need to get…including the steps it takes to get there.

Choose your Driver – Draw the Map…and enjoy the journey!
